What is Qigong

Qigong is the skill (gong) of regulating life energy (qi) to improve health. It is an ancient Chinese system that combines posture, movement, breathing techniques, and meditation. There are nine main forms of Qigong, including Yi Jin Jing (易筋经), Ba Duan Jin (八段锦), Wu Qin Xi (五禽戏), Liu Zi Jue (六字诀), Mawangdui Daoyin Shu (马王堆导引术), Daoyin Yangsheng Gong 12 Methods (导引养生功十二法), Da Wu (大舞), Tai Chi Yangsheng Staff (太极养生杖), and Twelve-Step Daoyin Health Preservation Exercise (十二段锦). These practices help to strengthen the body, prevent illness, and reduce medical expenses.

Qigong is a form of exercise that is accessible to everyone, with almost no limitations or prerequisites. It emphasizes harmony between body and mind, featuring slow and gentle movements. As a unique part of traditional Chinese health culture, it integrates wellness, rehabilitation, and fitness.

Benefits of Qigong

Modern Medicines believes that the human body has a neurohumoral self-regulation system that maintains internal balance and stability in an almost perfect way. Qigong activates this system through body-regulating movements, which stimulate a complex feedback mechanism involving various levels of motor centers and peripheral receptors. This helps maintain all parts of the body in an optimal physiological state. Through breath-regulating exercises, it supports the autonomic nervous system in achieving a well-balanced state of self-regulation.

With the effect of mind regulation, brainwave activity in the alpha frequency band of the frontal lobe increases, and the pituitary gland is prompted to secrete more beta endorphins, which are associated with feelings of pleasure. These endorphins act through receptors distributed throughout the body, improving the body’s self-regulatory function and enhancing overall vitality.

The human brain is the core organ responsible for cognitive processes and serves as the foundation for activities such as memory, thinking, and judgment. Modern medical research has shown that Qigong supports brain health. It enhances the vitality of brain cells, helps maintain normal brain function, and improves cognitive abilities such as memory, reasoning, and decision-making. Regular practice can also slow the decline of cognitive functions, allowing practitioners to maintain a healthy and stable cognitive state.

Cupping is generally not painful. Most patients describe it as a gentle pulling or tightening sensation when the cups are applied, similar to massage effect.

Psychological studies have found that changes in a person’s emotions can significantly affect various bodily systems, often leading to imbalances in physical functions. Through intentional self-regulation, Qigong helps improve emotional states, adjust physiological functions, and in turn, enhance overall physical health. Research in sports psychology also shows that Health Qigong is particularly effective in regulating emotions.

Through mental focus training and moral cultivation, Qigong can help reduce neurotic tendencies in practitioners’ personalities, thereby lowering the risk of illness caused by negative behavioral traits.
